Welcome to Your Virtual Assistant Coach, the podcast for moms who want to make money from home on their own terms. I'm your host, Laura Nicole, a successful six-figure earning VA and coach who replaced my college professor's salary in just five months back in 2020 after my daughter was born, and I have never looked back. I'm here to help you build a profitable, flexible VA business that fits into your family's lives so you no longer feel like you're living just to work. Let's dive in.

Laura Nicole: 0:32

We have a really important myth that we need to bust today. All right. So listen up. If you have been wanting to be a virtual assistant and you're like, God, that sounds so good. It sounds like exactly what I'm looking for, but I'm not techie enough. Like I'm just really not like super tech savvy. And that has been your reason for why you have not started this yet. Hear me when I say that is not a reason to not become a virtual assistant. You do not need to be a techie person. Tech has become so trendy, right? That people assume that if you are online or you're working online, that you have to be a super tech savvy individual. But that truly could not be further from the truth. Yes, do tech-specific VAs exist? 100%. But that is like a very niched-down category of virtual assistance that is not a necessary skill set in order to offer general admin and customer service style virtual assistant services.

Laura Nicole: 1:38

You absolutely need to be proficient on a computer, right? But in 2026, most people are, right? We know how to operate a smartphone. We know how to operate our computer, we know how to add links to an email or put an email in a folder or add an event to a digital calendar or create a Google Doc or a Google Sheet or create a Zoom meeting link, right? If you can do those things on the computer, then you can learn the systems and softwares that clients use because they're going to teach you. You don't need to know how to create automations and workflows and do HTML code or create things with JavaScript, right? Like I actually don't even know if JavaScript is still something that's used these days, but I might have just aged myself. But that literally the fact that I don't even know if that's a thing proves that you don't have to be techie to be a VA because I've been doing this for six years and I've made multiple, multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars doing this. And I don't even know if JavaScript is still a thing.

Laura Nicole: 2:39

Okay, if you have the basic computer proficiency to the point that someone could teach you their systems on their softwares and programs by walking you through it step by step, that is the extent of tech knowledge that you need. What really matters way more than being techie are the soft skills that you bring to the table. Being organized, being an effective communicator, being reliable, being able to manage your time, being able to manage projects, being able to actually follow the processes that the client teaches you, follow their instructions, right? Be a critical thinker, have a problem-solving mindset. All of those things are insanely valuable to potential clients, and they have nothing to do with how tech savvy you are or aren't. All of the tools that you need to use as a virtual assistant, which they're gonna vary for every person and every client, but any of them that you need to use, you can learn them, right? I guarantee you learned the programs and the software and the apps that you use at your current job or that you use at home to manage your budget or your schedule.

Laura Nicole: 3:45

You have figured out how to use all of those tools. And so as long as you can be taught how to use the tools that your clients use, you're good to go. And platforms that you might use on your end to manage your VA work, like Asana or Toggle or Canva and email tools, those are all super simple and very intuitive. They will be very, very easy for you to learn. Y'all, this episode is a nice little quickie because that's truly the message. That is the message. That is what I needed to convey to you. So if you have been letting this misconception and this thought in your brain of like, I'm not techie enough or I'm not computer savvy enough, I can't do this efficiently. You're probably wrong, right? Like, as long as you know how to operate your smartphone, send emails, Google things, use Google Drive, Google workspace, and you can learn new programs and softwares and websites, then that is all you need. So you can go ahead and tell your brain kindly to shut up.

Laura Nicole: 4:53
