There’s a reason why scrolling job boards isn’t getting you the kind of clients you actually want, and it’s probably not what you think.
In this episode, I’m talking about a different way to approach finding clients - one that doesn’t rely on waiting around for opportunities, but instead puts you in control of creating them.
It might feel uncomfortable at first, especially if you’re used to the more “traditional” way of applying for work. But when done right, it doesn’t have to take hours of your time or feel overwhelming.
Sometimes, the shift isn’t about doing more, it’s about doing things differently.
In this episode, I chat about👇🏻
- Why job platforms like Fiverr and Upwork often lead to frustration
- What proactive networking looks like in real life
- How 15 minutes a day can lead to landing a client

Welcome to Your Virtual Assistant Coach, the podcast for moms who want to make money from home on their own terms. I'm your host, Laura Nicole, a successful six-figure earning VA and coach who replaced my college professor's salary in just five months back in 2020 after my daughter was born, and I have never looked back. I'm here to help you build a profitable, flexible VA business that fits into your family's lives so you no longer feel like you're living just to work. Let's dive in.
Laura Nicole:Â 00:33
The way that I teach women to find virtual assistant clients is through proactive networking, actually going out, finding the idle clients that you would love to support on social media, starting conversations, actually creating connections with them, just engaging with these potential clients on a human level. And I think for some women, when they hear that, they're like, wow, that sounds overwhelming, right? It's the go-to for a lot of women when they step into this space to want to default to the Fiverr and the upwork spaces online where they can scroll job listings and reply to them because that feels more normal to us. That's more similar to how you would apply to jobs in the W-2 space. And it's just what we know. But when that's the route that women go to try and find clients, it just ends in frustration because those platforms are much more designed for international VAs, for low-ticket projects, and also just for one-off projects that clients just want one thing done in their business. They're not set up for long-term working relationships. And that's exactly why I always tell the women I coach, I would prefer that you spend your time finding your idle client on social media and connecting with them there all day, every day, over spending your time scrolling for job listings on sites like Fiverr and

Upwork. But when I talk about this connection piece and going out and having conversation and creating connection, there almost always is a bit of pushback from women, whether it's a subconscious or a conscious pushback, there's that feeling of that feels uncomfortable. That feels like I'm stepping outside of my comfort zone. It's something new that I haven't done before. What do I say? How do I interact? And it often leads to overthinking, but it truly, truly, truly does not need to be overwhelming. It does not need to be confusing. And it sure as hell does not need to be extremely time consuming. Y'all have heard me talk in a previous episode about how networking is a numbers game, right? You do need to make connections with a large number of potential clients in order to have an adequate enough pool to convert some of them into clients, right? There is that math behind it, but it doesn't mean that you have to spend hours on end or have networking be your full-time job. Okay. It just does not have to be. When I teach women how to network in this way so that they find aligned clients that they can work with long term, right? To create the steadiness and the stability in this income, I teach them to network in 15-minute increments. And I know that it works because I've been doing it for years. I have hundreds of students who've done it, but I literally just had an example thrown in my face this morning of like, holy shit, yes, this really does
Laura Nicole:Â 03:52
work. And it really does get to be this simple. When Carrie, who is one of my um group coaching students, popped into our Telegram and let us know that in just two very intentional 15-minute networking blocks, she had created connection with two really solid leads amongst the others that she had connected with. And one of them was scheduling a discovery call. And then she popped back in this morning and said that she landed that client, that they're going to move forward together. And when I tell y'all that Carrie is busy, she's a mom, she is a wife, she has tons of shit on her plate. Tons, right? Life has been lifing for Carrie as of late. And so when she had popped into Telegram a week and a half ago saying she was feeling frustrated and there was just a lot going on, and she wasn't sure how to carve out time and how to devote to showing up consistently in this space. Literally all I challenged her to was finding 15 minutes every day. Find 15 minutes in the day.Â
Laura Nicole:Â 05:03
I don't care if you do it hiding in the bathroom, sitting on the potty so that your kids don't know where you are. Find 15 minutes. That's all you need to be putting into this so that it's consistent. And because when you know who your idle client is, when you're clear on that, you can be so intentional in those 15 minutes that you can make so many connections in that time frame. And that's exactly what she did. That's exactly what she did. She literally gave 15 minutes of intentional time for a few days. This wasn't even like it's been a month that we're doing it every day. She literally had been kind of clocked out for a few weeks and tapped back in, implemented this method, and signed a client. Like, y'all, it can be this simple if you are intentional and if you are consistent.

I am going to be teaching my first client formula, which is the same base concept and strategy of what Carrie literally just used to sign a client. It's the same strategy that I just used a week and a half ago to sign a new client. And I'm going to be teaching it to you in a free training, a completely free training. You can come steal this formula from me on April 30th. And I would love to have you join me. I would love for you to not have to continue Googling and asking Chat GPT, how do I find VA clients? Where do I find real clients that aren't scams? Save your time. Stop Googling that shit. Come hang out with me on this free first client formula training. And in just a little over an hour and one day, you will have this formula that you can take out into the real world, utilize, and go sign a freaking client. Okay. The link to register is in the show notes. Go do it. Once you have registered, um, the confirmation page will tell you pop over to Instagram, send me a DM that says FCF for first client formula to let me know that you are registered. And I cannot freaking wait to see you there and give you this formula.
