I'm already in my 30s. I wish that I would have heard about virtual assistance work years ago. Or I'm in my 40s. I've already missed my chance. I just gotta keep going with what I'm doing. If you have ever thought that or said that out loud when thinking of how much you desire a change in the way that you earn your income and the way that your motherhood gets to look, I am going to lovingly call that out really quick for what it is, which is a myth. Because if anything, in your 30s and 40s is one of the best times to build a virtual assistant business.

 When we were in our 20s, success for a lot of us looked like climbing the ladder, getting promotions, getting a raise, increasing our paycheck, getting it that new title rank and the recognition that came along with it. But then life changes. We get into our 30s and things start to feel different. Maybe you became a mom like I did at 33. Maybe your parents start aging. Maybe you simply realize that the things that used to matter just don't matter nearly as much to you anymore. Your priorities have shifted. And that's not because you've failed. It's because you have grown. Especially once kids enter the picture, the list of things that are actually worth missing time with for them becomes pretty short. We start asking different questions. We start analyzing how our time and energy is spent from a different lens. Not just how do I make more money, but how do I make more money and actually get to be there? How do I get to be paid and present with my kids and my family? That is a completely different goal.

And of course, changing careers, changing the way that you are creating an income for your family, changing what your day-to-day life can look like is scary. Of course it is. Something new always is going to feel uncomfortable. But can I tell you what I personally think is even scarier? Is looking up a year from now and being in a position where you are still wanting the change, where you're still dreaming about the flexibility, you're still wishing that your day-to-day schedule looked different, but realizing that you're not any closer to it than you were a year ago because time is going to pass either way. But the question is, will you be in a different place when it does? Will you listen to your women's intuition that is very strong and trust that you are allowed to make a shift? You are allowed to make a change. You are allowed to recognize that your priorities in this season of life are simply different. And that means that you have to change the way that you go about financially supporting that life and those priorities.

 One of my favorite reminders for women when they get stuck in this fear is that you're not starting from scratch. We tend to get in our heads and be like, oh, I'm starting over. And that makes it sound incredibly daunting. But you're not starting over. You're not starting from scratch. You are starting with years of work experience, communication skills, organization, critical thinking skills that you have used at work and at home that make you an excellent problem solver. You have work and life experience that is going to transfer and allow you to create this shift. You are simply learning how to package those skills differently. You are learning how to use those skill sets in a new way to support the shift that you are craving. But everything that you have done until this point comes with you. It does not disappear. So if your priorities have changed and flexibility matters more than titles, if being present with your family is worth more to you than another promotion, virtual assistance is one of the few careers that allows you to build income around your life instead of constantly building your life around your job. It doesn't mean that it happens overnight, but it absolutely can happen and you are allowed to make this shift.
