In this episode, I’m challenging the way you think about rejection and what it actually means when a potential client tells you no. Because the truth is, if you’re not putting yourself in a position to be rejected, you’re also not putting yourself in a position to be hired.
I walk you through a mindset shift that can completely change how you approach pitching yourself as a virtual assistant. Instead of seeing rejection as failure, I want you to start seeing it as part of the process, something that’s actually moving you closer to your next yes.
If you’ve been holding back, overthinking your next move, or avoiding putting yourself out there because you’re scared of hearing “no”, this episode is your push to take action.
In this episode, I chat about👇🏻
-
Why every “no” is actually getting you closer to a “yes"
-
How rejection helps you improve your pitch and learn more about clients
-
The mindset shift that will keep you moving forward instead of giving up
Once you’ve given a potential client the chance to say no, send me a DM on Instagram @hey.lauranicole to celebrate you stepping out of your comfort zone. I can’t wait to cheer you on!

Welcome to Your Virtual Assistant Coach, the podcast for moms who want to make money from home on their own terms. I'm your host, Laura Nicole, a successful six-figure earning VA and coach who replaced my college professor salary in just five months back in 2020 after my daughter was born, and I have never looked back. I'm here to help you build a profitable, flexible VA business that fits into your family's lives so you no longer feel like you're living just to work. Let's dive in.
Laura Nicole: 00:33
If you knew that you were just 100 rejections away from signing your dream client and really taking off as a virtual assistant, creating the income, having the flexible schedule, if you knew you were 100 rejections away from that becoming your reality, think about how absolutely out of your mind excited you would be every single time that a potential client told you no. It's counterintuitive to be excited by the idea of someone telling us no, of someone rejecting us in our core, that makes us really fucking uncomfortable. We don't want to feel rejected. We don't want to be turned down. But the reality of the situation is that while it's not 100 rejections on the no's, right? Until you get to that first yes, every single no is getting you one step closer to the yes. Every single no,
Laura Nicole: 01:41
every single rejection, every single time that you put yourself out there and give a potential client, a business owner that you would love to support, every time you give them the chance to say no to you, you're also giving them the chance to say yes to you. A business owner cannot hire you if they don't know that you want to work with them, right? And in order for them to know that you want to work with them and support them, you have to put yourself out there and put yourself into a position to possibly be rejected. But every no is a step toward the yes. It's not a failure. It doesn't mean you suck. It doesn't mean that this is never gonna work for you. It doesn't mean that you need to give up altogether. The no's are a necessary part of this process. And honestly, all of the conversations you have with those potential clients, even if they end up in a no, you learned something from those conversations. You either learned how to tweak your pitch in the future to be better, or you learned a trait about the potential client that you like maybe actually don't really want that might be a red flag for you in the future. But you're going to learn something from it, right? It is not a failure, it's a lesson if you allow the rejections and the noes to be lessons.
Laura Nicole: 03:17
Unfortunately, there are so, so, so, so many women who choose not to see it as a lesson and they choose to take the no as a sign that this isn't meant for them and that it's not gonna work for them. And when that is where your head is at, and that is where your perspective is at, then you're damn right. You're right that it's not gonna work for you if you get the first no or the first five no's or even the first 25 no's from potential clients, and you make the decision that that means you can't do this. You're going to be right either way, regardless of what your perspective is. So you have the choice of having your perspective be, oh, of course I got told no again. Saw that coming, right? Or you can have your perspective be, okay, I got told no. What lesson can I take from this? How can I improve my process in the future? And I'm one step closer to a yes. And one of those perspectives is gonna cause you to give up, right? The only way to fail is to quit. And if you quit and you give up because you got told no, and that you think that means that you're a failure and you can't do this, then yeah, that's gonna cause you to give up really fucking quick. But the other perspective of learning and moving forward, that is going to motivate you and fuel you and light a fire under you to keep going, keep putting yourself out there, keep giving business owners the chance to reject you so that they also have the chance to say yes to you.
Laura Nicole: 05:06
I want you to go out today and give a potential client the chance to reject you. Seriously, I want you to do it. I want you to go onto Instagram, find that person that you've been chit-chatting with here and there and creating connection with over the past few weeks or a couple of months, but you've been hesitating on actually putting yourself out there, on actually making that pitch, on actually telling them how much you would love to support them and how you could do that because you're scared to be told no, because you're scared to have them reject you. Go right now. Pause me, put me down, put baby in the corner, go message that person. Something thoughtful, right? Don't be out here while on out, but go message them. Go give somebody the chance to reject you, which also means you're giving them the chance to say yes to you.
Laura Nicole: 06:10
And once you've done it, I want you to send me a DM on Instagram. My handle is hey. But go and send me a message after you've done it, telling me that you did it. You can send me a screenshot if you want to to show me what you sent, and we will take a minute and celebrate you stepping out of your comfort zone because taking that action is going to be the only way to make this happen. So I'm gonna tell you in advance, I'm proud of you, but I can't wait to celebrate you when you message me after you have gone out there and given a potential client the chance to tell you no. Thanks for hanging out with me today on your virtual assistant coach. If you love this episode, be sure to share it with your best friend, your sister, or even your favorite coworker who you know wants to start making a flexible income. I'll see you all next time.
